A Hidden Treasure

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also..” Matthew 6:19-21

Want to know how to find you very own hidden treasures? It’s not that hard just look where you spend most of your time. Then look at where you spend most of your income. Those will point straight to your treasures. The Bible says that is where you heart is also.

Most people earn enough to meet their basic needs and then some. It may be a little or it may be a lot. But, with that extra (above our basic needs) God expects us to use it to glorify Him. He may expect you to tithe with some of it. He may have given you that little bit extra to help your neighbor though a tuff month financially. He expects you to consider Him and what you might do with it to glorify Him.

Many, even today, have idols that they worship. Haven’t you seen them? The person that religiously exercises instead of going to church, worships their own body. The guy that spends most of his time and money on his car, worships the car. The financial wizard that spends every spare moment watching his investments, worships his bank account. There is nothing wrong with exercise, cars or money. When things take center stage and become more important than your relationship with Christ, they become your idol.

  • Do you invest your time and money in things that glorify our Lord?
  • Do you have some idols that need to be moved to the back burner?
  • Are you building your treasures here or in the here after?
