W A R !"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2The war we are talking about has been around since the beginning of mankind and is still alive and well today. It is a war that you and I have seen escalating on many fronts, all of our lives. It is a war in which one side will seem to almost win completely before Jesus returns. Then He will reassert His authority over the world and put an end to the war. This is the war between mankind and God. It takes many shapes and forms and there are numerous accounts of skirmishes in the daily news and in our history books. Here are a few that you may be familiar with:
These skirmishes are ongoing and hit the news often. As in every war there are casualties in this war too. Here are just a few: The Bible says we are not to conform to this world: Romans 12:1-2 "beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." The reason this war rages on from generation to generation is perhaps best summed up in the following verse. Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death." Because of our sinful nature we naturally want to do what ever we like, what ever makes us feel good. More specifically we don’t like being subjugated to any one’s authority. In other words, we don’t like being told what we can and can not do. Those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our savior have willing accepted God’s authority (control) over our lives. Who is in control of your life is the key question that determines which side you take in the individual skirmishes and the war. Areas of your life that are yielded to God’s authority are often revealed buy the side you take in these type skirmishes. Where do you get your values from and what do you believe? What is your ruler or standard? Who decides what is truth and what is not? We have the liberty to take a stand for Christ and the values He reveals to us in His written word or we can stand for values we get from the world. The choice is ours to make.
